Conservation area

   The total area of protected areas on the islands of the West Indies is 30 thousand km ² (13% Earth's surface area). In Cuba, protected by about 15% of its territory (including the Zapata swamp area of 4,354.3 km ², national park Alejandro de Humboldt and Desembarko del Granma), Dominica - a little over 20% (including National Park, Morne Trois Pitons) in the Dominican Republic - approximately 15% (national park Haragua etc.). In other countries, protected natural areas is almost there.

   Among the protected areas along the continental coast are the following: Reserve Sian Ka'an, Chinchorro Bank (Mexico), a biological reserve in the islands Miskitos (Nicaragua), the National Park Darién (Panama), the national parks of Los Katios and Tayrona (Colombia), National Park Medanos de Coro National Park, Henry Peter, El Avila, moisten and Laguna de La Restinga (Venezuela).
